This is half correct. In terms of single target damage, the dervish is inferior. But it's multiple target damage is superior.

God Tier - Ritualist, Mesmer
Top Tier - Necromancer
Middle Tier - Elementalist, Monk
Bottom Tier - Paragon, Dervish (Imbaway with orders dervs and such other stuff, dervish might deserve being bumped up to middle with the recent dwaynaway build, but it isnt something I would want to run)
Garbage Tier - Warrior, Ranger, Assasin

Playing my warrior:
God Tier - Ritualist, Necro (minions)
High Tier - Mesmer, Necro (other), Ele (ER)
Middle Tier - Dervish
Bottom Tier - Monk, Ranger (spirits), Ele (other)
Garbage Tier - Assassin, Paragon, Ranger (other), Warrior

Playing my ele or necro (AP+PvE builds):
God Tier - Ritualist, Necro (minions)
High Tier - Mesmer, Necro (other), Ele (ER)
Middle Tier -
Bottom Tier - Dervish, Monk, Ranger (spirits) Ele (other)
Garbage Tier - Assassin, Paragon, Ranger (other), Warrior

Playing my rit (spirit spamming dps/tank):
God Tier - Necro (minions)
High Tier - Ritualist, Mesmer, Necro (other), Ele (ER)
Middle Tier -
Bottom Tier - Dervish, Monk, Ele (other)
Garbage Tier - Assassin, Paragon, Ranger, Warrior

Playing my mesmer who I like to be different from other casters (non-AP/EVAS builds):
God Tier - Ritualist, Necro (minions)
High Tier - Mesmer, Necro (other), Ele (ER)
Middle Tier - Dervish
Bottom Tier - Monk, Ele (other)
Garbage Tier - Assassin, Paragon, Ranger, Warrior

The two teams where I somewhat value the dervish use them quite differently. The warrior uses them as physical DPS with orders/curses/splinter/SoH, and the mesmer as a tank/baller.

God Tier: Ritualist
Top Tier : Mesmer
Middle Tier : Necromancer,
Bottom Tier: Elementalist, Dervish, Paragon, Ranger, warrior, Monk.
Garbage Tier: Assassin

I don't carry an MM anymore, waste of a slot.
Bottom tier is all niche/gimmick/whatever.
You don't even need multiple Rits, one just holds it down.

Player as a Mesmer, Necro, or other my default for any non-listed profession.
God tier - Ritualist
Top tier - Mesmer, Necro, Monk
Middle tier - Assassin, Dervish
Bottom tier - Elementalist, Warrior, Ranger
Garbage tier - Paragon

As a Ritualist player.
God tier - Mesmer
Top tier - Necro, Ritualist
Middle tier - Monk, Dervish
Bottom tier - Assassin, Elementalist, Ranger
Garbage tier - Paragon, Warrior

As an Assassin player, non-SF. Yea, that means daggers.
God tier - Ritualist, Necromancer
Top tier - Dervish, Mesmer
Middle tier - Monk
Bottom tier - Elementalist, Ranger
Garbage tier - Warrior, Paragon, Assassin

All in respect to HM only, as anything works in NM.
As Mesmer is my main, I tend to default towards her hero's setups with non-listed primary professions. Excluding Monk, as I flatly do not solo with a Monk. (Unless I'm literally solo'ing as a 55 or whatever.)
I have one character of each primary profession.
Some eccentricities;
- I loathe ER eles and generally find other professions to be better at the job. That and Earth utility builds are the only thing they're really good for in HM, hence the all around low ratings.
- Dagger sin heroes give very nice spikes when you just need to fill that 1 extra spot with random damage. Their builds need to be entirely different then player builds, but when you're going in with minions/spirits anyways they're plenty survivable.
- Paragons are crap. They see my teams when I'm doing very specific quests. They're bottom of the bin garbage.
- While I almost always have a monk in my party I did not rate them higher because I find the least satisfaction in monk builds in general. They provide their sexy mega-healing at the cost of efficiency.
- I used my dervish heroes pre-update frequently! They serve as an amazing resilient distraction, which tends to keep the rest of the party alive. With or without minions. Which they can do while performing another role, like dps. They're just, you know, incredibly better at everything now.
- Necros are actually so high for their support builds. Minions, BiP, prot spams, NRt restro, etc. If I were to split them between support and offense, I would actually stick a damage focused necro (curses, etc) between bottom and middle tiers for any given class.
- Like Necros, if I were to split Monks into healing/protection and smiting, heal/prot would stay where monk is, and smiting would drop down between Bottom and Garbage.
- The only reason Warrior isn't in the garbage for the Mesmer etc section is 4-man areas. More or less meaning Ascalon. They're very well suited to it if you're playing a caster, as it is usually easiest to play semi-balanced with such a small team.
- As has been said, there is more then one way to kill red dots. I experiment wildly, and if you're alone with bots anyways I see no space for others to criticize unless invited to do so.
